Fraser Island

THE LARGEST SAND ISLAND IN THE WORLD

FRASER ISLAND IS LOCATED IN SOUTHERN QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA.  WE TOOK A DAY SAIL FROM BUNDABERG TO FRASER ISLAND WHERE WE STAYED FOR A FEW DAYS.  WE SAW MANY BARGES PASSING BY WITH 4-WHEEL DRIVE TRUCKS ON THEIR DECKS BRINGING AUSTRALIANS CRAVING SOME BEACH RIDING. AFTER DROPPING ANCHOR IN THE BACKWATERS WE TOOK OUR DINGHY ASHORE, FOUND A TRUCK AND JOINED THE PACK.  DRIVING ON AN ENDLESS BEACH WAS AMAZING.

AS THE LARGEST ISLAND IN THE WORLD, IT IS RECOGNIZED AS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE BY THE UNITED NATIONS ORGANIZATION FOR EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND CULTURE (UNESCO).  WE HAVE VISITED MANY AMAZING WORLD HERITAGE SITES WHICH, ACCORDING TO THEIR WEBSITE, ARE SELECTED THROUGH A PROCESS THAT RECOGNIZES THE WAY IN WHICH PEOPLE INTERACT WITH NATURE, AND THE FUNDAMENTAL NEED TO PRESERVE THE BALANCE BETWEEN THE TWO.  I OFTEN WONDER WHEN PEOPLE STARTED BEING CONSIDERED SOMETHING OTHER THAN NATURE AND WHY.
